Mak Manager is a utility which automatically runs the appropriate programming environment when you double-click on a make file(with the .mak extension). This is useful when you have more than one development environment on your system. For instance, if you install Visual C++ 1.x, Visual C++ 2.x, and Visual Basic, you will probably run into problems when you double click on a make file hoping that the correct environment will startup. In most cases, if you double-click on a Visual Basic make file, Visual C++ will startup giving you an error message saying that the make file is corrupt or is not a Visual C++ make file. This all depends on the order you installed the applications in.
Mak Manager is a full Win32 compliant program, and only runs on Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.5 or higher. It has not been tested with the Win32s libraries for Windows 3.x. If I receive requests for a 16-bit version, I will consider making one. The code in this program has been optimized for the 486 processor, under the assumption that no one doing program development today is using a 386 processor. In the next version, I will add support for other development tools, including Visual C++ 4.0. Because the program is so easy to use, I was reluctant to add a help file. As it grows in size, I will consider adding one.
Directions
Start Mak Manager
Click on the Configuration button
Select Auto Detect
If the locations of the programs are not detected properly, you may enter them by either typing the correct path and .exe name in the edit box, or by using the Browse button
Mak Manager can be used with any combination of Visual C++ 1.x, Visual C++ 2.x, and Visual Basic
Selecting OK will cause Mak Manager to automatically associate itself with make files, both in the registry and win.ini
From that point on, whenever you open a make file from Explorer, File Manager, or any program of that type, Mak Manager will automatically determine which development environment it belongs to, and launch the appropriate program based on the location that you specified in the Program Locations dialog box
